A supervisor is a person in charge of the smooth running and completion of a task in an organization or business. This especially includes making sure that rules and procedures are followed, the budget is maintained and time is effectively utilized. Careers in the field of a supervisor usually involve a lot of communication with many people throughout the process. Such careers include medicine, teaching, engineering and construction.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Planning and organizing the work or shift schedule such as work assignments, shift rotations, vacations and employee breaks.
  • Availing oneself at the work station promptly and conveniently so as to ensure that policies and set standards are adhered to.
  • Ensure that all business permits, records and reports have been approved by the concerned authorities.
  • Communicate with other authorities and management concerned.
  • Ensure the safety of employees and the environment they are working in.

  • Must be able to give distinct guidelines and direction.

Education and qualifications

Fields such as construction mostly rely on one’s experience and expertise but in most cases a high school diploma is the minimum qualification.
